Finding Your Voice: Reclaiming the Inner Writer

Picture
Through instruction, discussion and practical application, Finding Your Voice will help you learn techniques to connect with your most authentic writing-self, whilst helping you identify the themes and stories that have meaning to you. This course will help you recognise the difference between the noisy, judgemental chitter-chatter of the mind, and the quieter, wiser voice of your inner writer.

By the end of this six weeks, you will have the beginnings of a piece that reflects your unique and authentic voice, and have the tools to breathe new life into existing writing projects.

Course dates: 4 May – 15 June 2021

Cost: £175

For full details and booking go to the London Lit Lab page.

The first meeting will be on 27 January and will run for 6 weeks.

This course is for anyone who feels drawn to enhance their wellbeing and to discover, or rediscover, meaning in their life. You do not need to be a ‘writer’ to write. The Hero's Journey

Saturday, 10am – 4pm
21 March, 2020

The Hero’s Journey, aka classic story structure, is a writer’s survival kit, providing all that is vital to brilliant storytelling in a few key stages. Does your central character, hero or heroine, have a reason to leave their ordinary, everyday world and go on a journey into the unknown, and does each stage of their journey draw your reader more deeply into the narrative? The journey might be to the ends of the earth or just to the garden shed, but if you, the author, know the way, your story will grip readers from first page to last.
The hero’s journey is, arguably, the pattern that all narratives naturally take; it is a check-list for your survival kit and a rescue plan in the event of road-blocks. It is the way the very best tales have been told since written storytelling began, and how bestsellers get written!

The Writer’s Voice: What is it and how do I get one?

Wednesdays, 2pm – 4pm
26 February – 1 April 2020
Belconnen Arts Centre, Canberra, Australia

This course is for writers of all abilities and experience and for those interested in fiction and non-fiction alike. What does it mean to ‘have a voice’ as a writer? Voice is something deeply personal, impossible to fake and almost as difficult to define. Voice is more than the expression of an opinion or an attitude, it is each individual writer’s most powerful tool for channelling ideas.

Tapestry – The Story behind Bayeux — An evening with Kylie Fitzpatrick

In her novel, 'Tapestry', Kylie Fitzpatrick sets out to unravel the mystery of the Bayeux Tapestry, exploring the story of medieval women who stitched it, and the dying days of Anglo-Saxon England.

The Bayeux Tapestry is the most famous embroidery in the world. Its origins are mysterious. Although it tells the story of the victory of the Normans in 1066, it is believed to have been made in England in the eleventh century. In 2017, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that it would be loaned to Britain for public display. It is expected to be exhibited at the British Museum from 2022, the first time that it has left France in 950 years.

“Fitzpatrick excels in presenting complex ideas and human frailty in the face of fear and desire” Saturday Telegraph

“A novel of genuine power and conviction” Sunday Times
