The manuscript lab in Frome
Publishing your bookJoin indie publisher Archetype Books’ Kylie Fitzpatrick and Michael Phillips for three upbeat workshops (7, 14 & 21 October), taking you on an informative jaunt into the world of writing and producing books. 7 October, Workshop 1: How strong is your idea? Literary agents and publishers say they’re looking for new voices and fresh voices, but some are also looking for very specific types of books. So should we write the book we want to write, or conform to genre? 14 October, Workshop 2: How to self-edit Editing is just another word for writing. The editing process is often the most creative and exciting part of turning a first draft into a publishable book. We’ll look at the different stages of editing, and share some hacks to help you self-edit. 21 October, Workshop 3: Getting it published An exploration of the traditional publishing model and the many self-publishing options. Lots of time for Q&A!
Restorative Writing
Come along for a cosy, candle-lit evening of transformational writing, guided by me, downstairs At The Chapel. I’ve been curating gentle but powerful writing techniques and exercises since completing doctoral studies in Creative Writing, and then practitioner training in the psychotherapy, Focusing.
Neuroscience is catching up with what writers and thinkers have always known: that writing is good for us. It calms the anxious mind, finds meaning when a personal or global narrative might seem senseless, and restores the balance of inner and outer. Places are limited and these workshops can fill up quickly. Please email me to book and I will provide payment details. Bring your favourite pen and paper. £10 Curative Writing in Skyros
War's long shadow. Writing WWII - eighty years on.I was please to be invited to host this panel discussion between three writers, Felice Hardy (far left), Frances Liardet next to me, and Michael Tasker Phillips (far right). They have all written books based during the War and – like me – have a keen interest in trauma and how each generation is challenged to heal the past and live authentic lives.
Dotbooks, GermanyTwo of my novels – Tapestry and The Silver Thread have just been re-launched in digital versions.
Dotbooks work in a different way to German trade publishers in that they pitch to the eBook retailers (with the package including covers etc) to get their support for promotions and then schedule the publication date around that. |
